Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has refused to weigh in on the ongoing wrangles within the National Super Alliance (NASA).
The coalition which ODM leader Raila Odinga used to run for presidency in 2017 is on the brink of collapse, with leaders trading barbs in recent weeks.
More worrying, Mr Odinga seemed to be wooing a section of Kamba leaders opposed to his former running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, further raising doubts about the future of the coalition.
In an interview with the Nation, Muthama said that he will speak about the coalition's future at an appropriate time.
“As the Nasa co-chair who is involved in the management of the coalition, with capital letters, I want to say that my time to comment and speak is not yet. I will speak at an appropriate time,” Mr Muthama said.
The coalition is wrangling over Sh4 billion political parties funds allocated to the ODM party which fielded presidential candidate in 2017 polls.
The Kibra by-election has even intensified the wrangles within the parties, with ODM accusing NASA affiliates of fielding candidates in bad faith.
“Several governors were called to Kibra. Most of them have swindled public funds from county governments and their files are already with the DCI and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and are now hiding behind the old man (Mr Odinga) to be protected during investigations,” ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi said.
Also dividing the coalition is the decision by Mr Odinga to reconcile with President Uhuru Kenyatta without informing other members about his plans.
The ODM party has also accused other NASA co-principals of acting in bad faith by giving Mr Odinga's mock swearing-in in 2018 a wide berth.
