Besides the Garissa Woman Representative Anab Subow, most elected leaders from the region have been cautious about supporting Dr Ruto.

Initially, Ruto enjoyed grassroots support with Ali Roba, Ali Korame and Mohamed Abdi, the governors from the region leading the teams.

However, since then, even Majority Leader Aden Duale has drastically reduced engagement with the DP over the BBI report.

Maalim now says leaders from the region are keen to work with the government as the DP gets increasingly snubbed.

"DP Ruto brigade from the North with the exception of Hon Anab are scampering to jump ship. Counterpart brigades in MT Kenya, Coast &Western are digging in, supporting Ruto come rain or sun. Northern Politicians have perfected a strategy of aligning with any Government in power," he said.

During the BBI meeting on Saturday in Bukhungu, Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi led over 10 MPs from the region in supporting BBI.

On his part, Duale has been pushing for a parliamentary system of government whereas Ruto is keen with the Presidential system.

Ruto's allies led by Samson Cherargei on Saturday accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of using BBI for 2022 campaigns.

“We know what Raila and the team are doing – crisscrossing the nation hoodwinking the public that they are drumming up support for the BBI report when their real motive is to use it as a weapon to bar DP Ruto from ascending into power,” said Mr Cherargei.
