He has gained popularity through calling almost every radio station in Kenya that at any particular moment has opened its phone lines to allow listeners to contribute in whichever topic that is under discussion.
Wanjohi wa Kigogo-ini from Tetu in Nyeri County is more so popular among Kikuyu radio stations listeners and presenters because he hardly fails to call in these stations to at least have his voice heard on any particular matter on focus.
Though you can tell from Wanjohi's many contributions that he sometimes is ignorant about the topic of discussion, this has never apparently been a problem to him.
"I am almost always certain that he will call into my show and make comments on the topic under discussion before proceeding to send endless greetings to his friends and fans. Sometimes as a presenter you have to hang up on him so that you don't end up turning the call-in session into a greetings episode," said one Inooro FM presenter who sought anonymity.
The presenter notes that Wanjohi whom he met in Nyeri Town some few years ago during one of Inooro FM's roadshows in the area, is a mere farmhand with a 'humble lifestyle but with very high self-esteem'.
"I was awed by Wanjohi's self-esteem when I finally came to meet him in person. I asked him where he gets all that airtime that he uses to call almost every radio station and he told me that he gets it from friends and even businesspeople who want him to greet them as well as mention their businesses in the process. He admitted spending over Sh500 airtime daily calling radio stations," said the presenter.
Wanjohi who has now gained a celebrity status is also popular among local politicians as witnessed recently during his pre-wedding ceremony.
Among the attendees of his event were Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria. His wedding ceremony is scheduled for December 29 this year.
According to Paul Kariuki, a Thika resident and who travelled all the way to Nyeri to participate in Wanjohi's pre-nuptial ceremony, all he wanted to know is this caller who never fatigues to call Kikuyu radio stations.
"When I learnt about Wakigogo-ini's pre-wedding event via social media, I vowed not to miss the occasion just to go and encounter with this guy. He always leaves me with cracked ribs every time he calls in a radio station to make his contributions," said Kariuki.
Earlier this year, Wakigogo-ini is said to have pocketed a cool Sh20,000 from a local artist who was launching a song at a Nairobi entertainment joint.
The artist is said to have 'hunted' for Wanjohi's contacts till he got them from a Kikuyu radio presenter. Wanjohi's role was to hype the event while entertaining the attendants through comical irrelevancy.
