ODM Party leader's close ally Jared Okello who doubles up as the Nyando MP was on Sunday spotted in a blue T-shirt and white shorts in a farm in his constituency.
According to a statement released by the constituency's communication unit, the area lawmaker was overseeing Phase II of an ongoing constituency subsidized ploughing project which he launched last week on Wednesday.
“Hon. Jared Okelo overseeing Nyando Subsidized Ploughing Phase II which kicked off last week. Food security and making Nyando the breadbasket of the County was Mjumbe’s (MP) campaign promise and we are glad he is walking the talk,” read a section of a statement released by the Nyando Communication Unit.
The project which is meant to ensure the constituency is food sufficient and remains the country's breadbasket is sponsored by the MP himself.
The constituents are reportedly parting away with Shs 1000 for every acre that is ploughed which seems relatively cheaper compared to normal rates offered in the market.
Last year, over 1000 acres were ploughed at the subsidized rates.
Residents of Nyando Constituency have expressed their delight in the initiative branding it a life saver as most of them are farmers with the main cash crop being sugarcane.
Okello is one of the first term MPs in the country having been elected on the ODM Party ticket in 2017 replacing Fred Otieno Outa who is now serving as Kisumu County Senator.
He is one of Raila Odinga's point men in Kisumu County.
