A maid accused of killing her employer and a baby was on Wednesday arraigned at the Kisumu High Court.
Jackline Auma reportedly killed Elizabeth Ojwang’ and her 3-month old baby Benedict Okoth at their home in Shauri Yako estate, Muhoroni, on June 6, 2018.
Reports on Citizen Digital indicate that the suspect of Ugandan nationality pleaded not guilty to the two counts of murder before Judge Fred Ochieng’.
The case suffered a little delay after the accused claimed that she only understood, and spoke the Ugandan language, contrary to her earlier stand that she understood Swahili too.
She, however, later agreed to have the charge sheet read in Swahili, following interventions from her advocate Joy Ayieta.
Her request to be released on bail was opposed by the prosecution side led by Peter Muia, on grounds that she was a flight risk.
In concurrence with the prosecution, Judge Fred Ouma remanded the suspect who is expected to again appear in court on November 6.
