Dr Ruto has visited Kisii and Nyamira Counties for a record 21 times since 2018, the highest after his trips to Western Kenya.

In Nyamira particularly, the DP has been relying on the Chairman of Gusii Parliamentary Group Joash Nyamoko, who is also the North Mugirango MP.

On Tuesday, Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, while meeting Gusii community leaders, said that Dr Ruto should retire and endorse Dr Fred Matiang'i.

"I personally don't have issues with the DP. He has jointly led us with President Uhuru Kenyatta and their presidency expires in 2022.  He should just retire.

"We have Dr Matiang'i who has also proved to carry on with the agenda. He should consider endorsing him. That is the only perfect thing he should do," he said.

Dr Matiang'i has been silently lobbying Abagusii leaders to support him, a move that has since gathered momentum across the region.

Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama and Senator Okong'o Mogeni have been spearheading the calls. Governor James Ongwae is also part of the team.
