The incident was confirmed by Machakos sub-county police commander Joseph Tenei who said that the former officer was killed by unknown people.

He told the press on Tuesday that the deceased sustained deep cut wounds on his head.

Tenei observed that the retired officer was living alone and had been selling milk to locals.

"We were informed this morning that one Matolo Mwasya was killed in his home, it's not clear at what time. His body was found by locals who had gone to buy milk from his home," said the police boss.

"He had deep cut wounds on the head and his mouth had an injury too" he added.

Police suspect the deceased knew the attackers since his house was not broken into.

No person has been arrested in connection to the incident.

The Machakos sub-county police commander has however assured that no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators of the crime are put behind bars.

He urged locals to provide the police with information that may shed light in the investigations on the incident.

The body was moved to Machakos Level Five hospital for preservation awaiting postmortem.
