The Kenya Bureau of Statistics has been asked to change the list of enumerators who will be involved in the national census.
Speaking Sunday, Lugari Member of Parliament Ayub Savula called into question the list of enumerators, claiming it was peopled by non-locals.
He warned that locals would boycott the census unless the enumerators' list changed to accommodate locals as he issued an ultimatum that expires on Monday.
"I am telling the government that this list of the census should be changed by Monday. That list should have the people of Lugari only (Na mimi naambia serikali hii list ya census mubadilishe leo kufikia Jumatatu. Hiyo list iwe na watu wa Lugari, Lugari pekee yao, " Ayub Savula said.
His intervention comes amid claims that locals were never given the first priority in the census recruitment exercise.
In Kawangware irate locals engaged in running battles with law enforcement officers over the enumerators' list, saying that non-locals were given preference over locals.
President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the countdown to the census last week and said that elaborate security measures had been undertaken to ensure that the census unfolds seamlessly.
Among the measures taken include uniformed police officers accompanying the enumerators.
The once-in-ten-years helps the government in planning and the allocation of resources.
