Uasin Gishu County government will construct cycling paths in a move geared towards allowing residents to exercise physically.
According to Governor Jackson Mandago, this will help residents prevent heart-related diseases occasioned by physical inactivity.
"I have directed my CEC for lands and urban planning Nelson Maritim to start constructing bicycle paths with immediate effect to help residents exercise and prevent them from being affected by lifestyle diseases," said the Uasin Gishu County boss.
Mandago spoke at Eldoret Sports Club on Saturday.
"I have committed that from Langas-town, Maili Nne-town and Junction-town bicycle paths will be constructed while those from Elgon view will walk to town since they need to lose weight," he added.
He noted that cycling will be an option for many residents who currently use vehicles to get to their places of work.
The governor attributed the trend to inadequate physical activities by affected youths and asked them to embrace regular exercise to keep their body fit.
Mandago, however, called on the residents to use footpaths to walk to work, making a pledge to start walking to his office.
