Emurrua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno has been arrested for allegedly planning to lead a demonstration against the looming Mau second phase evictions.
The MP was arrested on Tuesday alongside Ololulunga ward representative Jefferson Langat after they were stopped at a roadblock in Narok South.
Rift Valley Regional commissioner George Natembeya while confirming the arrests maintained that the eviction will go on as planned and should not be politicized.
''We don’t want politics in Mau forest, let them address their issues in boardrooms or at press conferences in Nairobi,” Natembeya said as quoted by Standard.
He also cautioned residents against having a scuffle with the officers deployed in the area.
''Do not in any way engage the security forces. These are men and women who are here to enforce the law, ensure order and keep us safe. There is no place for violence,'' Natembeya told The Standard on Monday.
A section of Rif Valley leaders led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly opposed the move maintaining that people living in Mau Firest were there legally.
Murkomen has since urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene in the worsening situation so that the over 60,000 people set to be evicted are not rendered homeless.
''There will be no eviction from Masai Mau Trust Land until President Uhuru Kenyatta speaks. CS Tobiko who is conflicted has no moral authority to evict people against the law. We have asked Kenyans to stay put and our children to go to school like children of all other Kenyans!'' he said in a Facebook post, Monday.
