The latest report by outgoing Auditor General Edward Ouko shows that the county government of Nairobi cannot account for Sh.6 billion for the financial year ending June 2019.
The Mike Sonko government is yet to produce support documents for the expenses after the report was released on March 20, 2019.
The audit indicates that the county government doesn’t reveal Sh3, 045,914,596 that was held in three different bank accounts.
The report also shows that the county government paid, AAR Insurance Kenya Limited an excess amount of Sh652,786, 602 to cater for the medical insurance of the staff at city hall but there are no records to show the same.
The government is also yet to explain how Sh561, 841,394 was spent on asset acquisition and Sh421, 287,000 reportedly set aside for scholarships.
“I have not been able to obtain sufficient audit evidence to provide a basis for audit opinion on these financial statements,” the Auditor General said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The county government failed to complete several projects despite spending Sh592, 852,611 of taxpayers’ monies on the same.
Some of the projects that have stalled include Mother Teresa road in Ruaraka, St Martin’s Catholic Church road perimeter wall at Mji wa Huruma, rehabilitation of Gaturo road and Ndwaru road in Dagoretti.
