Mr. Murkomen, who doubles as Elgeyo-Marakwet senator, questioned EACC's focus on certain governors, arguing that Mutua should have been nabbed as well. Terming them "politically correct."

EACC facilitated the arrest of Governor Mike Sonko on Friday, a move that evoked mixed reactions on social media.

But in a tweet, Mutua fired back at Murkomen, insisting that he was not under any investigations from any agency, adding that he's clean.

"I wish to inform @kipmurkomen that I am NOT under any investigation by any agency. The DPP cleared me last year of any wrong doing & the FALSE politically instigated accusations about vehicles are no more. I have NEVER been corrupt & need no one’s protection. I am CLEAN," he tweeted.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap lesser alleged that he's been hearing that Murkomen also 'stole' Sh100 million meant for payment of maize farmers.

"As he digests my clarification, can @kipmurkomen clarify whether the rumors I have heard that he STOLE 100 million shillings in the recent maize scandal are true. If true, how much money has he & some of the fellas he hangs around with stolen from Kenyans? Siku za mwizi ni ngapi?" he questioned in a tweet.

The fight against corruption has intensified in recent weeks, although a section of politicians including Murkomen have often dismissed it as a political gimmick.

Mutua has projected himself as an anti-corruption crusader and has often asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to crack the whip on suspected corrupt people.
