The medics, who have been on strike under the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) since the beginning of the month, are demanding for promotions.

A meeting that was convened between County Health Executive Judith Attyang and the medics, who were represented by a team led by KMPDU Nyanza Chair Kevin Osuri on failed to bear fruits.

Osuri said that with the collapse of the 8-hour meeting on Tuesday, the medics will continue with their strike, until when the county will find it necessary to look into their demands.

"We are telling you that the doctors of Kisumu County will not be on duty, we are on strike. We are asking members of the public to please seek health services in private facilities or move to other neighbouring counties," he said.

He stated that the union rejected the county's request for more time, until February, to promote the medics, who are also demanding for study leaves and medical insurance.

He faulted governor Anyang' Nyong'o's leadership of failing to implement a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed by the two sides, hence the continued strike.
