Muiruri was found guilty of fraudulently obtaining Sh500, 000 from Elizabeth Wambui, an MCA aspirant, with the promise that he would make her become a Nakuru Member of County Assembly (MCA) during the 2017 elections.

Wambui was running for the Menengai West seat.

Wambui narrated how she was directed by Nakuru Jubilee chairman to Muiruri with a promise that he would ‘help her’.

He was before senior resident magistrate Yvonne Khatambi.

“I have carefully considered the nature of the offence and mitigation by the accused. The court has also taken into consideration the pre-sentence report. It was unfavourable to the accused,” the magistrate said.

Muiruri was fined Sh200, 000.

The case exposes the rot of certificate selling by top party honchos during elections.

According to inside sources, many certificates are sold at a mouth-watering amount in areas where a party is popular.

“They know buying a certificate is a sure way compared to the rigorous and uncertain campaigning,” the source said.
