Dadaab MP Mohamed Dahiye has supported calls by some lawmakers to challenge the Finance Bill 2018 that President Uhuru Kenyatta signed into law in court.
Dahiye says that the bill that is now law is not friendly to the economy.
Speaking in Garissa on Sunday, the MP said that the cost of living is expected to go up pushing Kenyans to poverty.
“I support some of my colleagues who want to challenge the Finance law 2018 in court,” he said.
The MP stated that the 8% VAT imposed on fuel and petroleum products will hurt the economy.
He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to cushion Kenyans from harsh economic life.
“The president must find alternative ways to protect poor Kenyans,” he said.
Dahiye also cautioned the government against overborrowing to finance projects.
He said that overborrowing from external sources is dangerous and would plunge the country into economic crisis.
The president signed into law the Finance Bill 2018 into law two weeks ago.
A section of MPs opposed to the law has threatened to challenge it in court.
