Al-Shabaab militants continued with their onslaught against security forces, this time targeting peace keeping forces in a Somalia airport.
Explosions were heard in Ballidogle Airport in Somalia where United States of America troops train Somali Special forces ahead of AMISOM exit.
Reports indicate that the militants have so far claimed responsibility for attacking the highly guarded army base, a move that could question the ability to contain the militants.
"Explosions heard in the vicinity of Ballidogle airport, the base for US troops training Somali special forces," VOA journalist Harun Maruf said.
"The Al-Shabaab militant group is claiming that their militias have attacked Ballidogle airport, using VBIEDs and infantry. Reports from the area say explosions have been heard," he added.
This is the third attack on an army base in Somalia within a span of one week. The militants attacked an army base outside Mogadishu last week killing over 20 SNA.
Also, there was an attack in Kismayo where Jubaland soldiers were attacked within a vicinity where Kenya Defence Forces man in Somalia on Thursday.
The high profile attacks come at the time AMISOM and UN officials are determined to ensure more Somalia National Army are trained before 2021.
The relationship between Kenya and Somalia has also deteriorated in recent weeks over Indian Ocean maritime border row, a move that could lead to withdrawal of KDF.
While President Uhuru Kenyatta insists that the standoff can be solved through negotiations, Somalia's Mohammed Farmaajo wants ICJ to solve the stalemate.
