Speaking on NTV on Monday, the outspoken legislator contended that there were more important issues than politics that the country was grappling with.

"The media is the one which is building this narrative of 2022 succession politics.

"Let us focus on building this country, let us focus on development. We've got a million youths plus who are jobless, who have degrees. We should be focused on how to create a narrative on how to create jobs for them," he said.

The lawmaker was reacting to the debate generated by a Daily Nation headline that claimed that veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga would run in the 2022 presidential election.

Mr Odinga took offence with the story, and threatened to sue the mainstream publication if it did not retract the headline.

The senator defended his party leader stating that he had called on the country to focus on development and only engage in politics when the right time comes.

The ODM leader has been coy about his presidential ambitions.
