Initial media reports suggested that the man identified as Richard Wangai committed suicide after losing 15 Million shillings in a Casino.

However, his mother has come out to trash the claims stating that his son has never seen or handled a million shillings.

She told police that her son was looking after her farm in Kwale county and was in the city to visit family and friends for the New year festivities.

Kilimani police boss Lucas Ogara said that the woman had arrived at the station very early to record a statement.

He said that it's not yet clear to what led the man to take his own life.

"We are yet to know with precision what resulted in Wangai's suicidal thoughts," said Ogara.

Wangai was seen at Adlife plaza at around 2 pm where he went around several stores for about an hour.

At around 3:42 pm he said a prayer with his rosary before jumping from the building.

An identification card and a rosary were found on him.
