Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka believes that Punguza Mizigo Bill will distract real constitutional changes, adding that Kenyans should remain focused.

According to Saturday Standard, Musyoka says real changes will be achieved through Building Bridges Initiative, which was set by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

The BBI team has been moving around the country collecting views on possible governance change, and it's yet to handover its final report.

Once BBI is through, the two principals are likely to support constitutional changes, a route Musyoka believes shall work for the country.

“We need to remain focused, the initiative might distract us from the real changes we are yearning through the BBI,” said Kalonzo.

But for BBI to remain relevant, the proponents should pray that Ekuru Aukot led team fails to garner requisite support from counties. Should it pass through, then a referendum is inevitable.

Aukot on Friday said his Bill is people driven, adding that he's optimistic that it will get required support at the county assembly level.

He said: “We came to you, you listened and endorsed. We thank IEBC for the above board signature verification exercise. This is for the people of Kenya.”

Already, Majority Leader Aden Duale has dismissed the bill, arguing that leaders will mobilise assemblies to reject the move.

“By attempting to cut on the representation of the people, the Punguza Mizigo Bill has begun its journey to the funeral at the County Assemblies, we will lobby them to reject in total,” said Duale.
