The group was nabbed while fishing near Remba Island in Lake Victoria on Sunday, and their four boats impounded, reports the Citizen Digital.

Confirming the incident, Homabay County Police Commander Marius Tum noted that his office is working towards facilitating the release of the fishermen and their boats.

Edward Oremo, a beach management unit official condemned the action, further calling upon the government to move with speed to have the group released.

He added that the seven are part of a larger group of detainees, claiming that the Tanzanian Police had earlier impounded 21 boats and released 17.

According to Oremo, they as well took away the fishermen's fishing gear and catch amounting to millions of shillings.

Reports indicate that the fishermen are being held at Sota Island.

Kenya has for some time now been having water border issues with the neighboring Uganda over the tiny Migingo Island.

The nation now seems to have landed into another wrangle with Tanzania.
