On Thursday, September 20th, a Tanzanian ferry, MV Nyerere capsized in Lake Victoria with over 126 people reported dead.
The overloaded ferry which had carried over 200 passengers, twice the ferry capacity overturned near Ukara Island.
Eyewitnesses said that the ferry sunk as passengers on board rushed on one side as it approached the dock.
Tanzanian opposition leaders came out to accuse the government of negligence.
According to the opposition deputy secretary John Mnyika, they had raised alarm about the poor state of the ferry but no action was taken.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has now come out to mourn with the Tanzanian people during this sad moments. Here is Uhuru's condolence message.
