Expected to run include former Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga and area Senator Fred Outa, all of whom are allied to the opposition’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Also expected in the race is current Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o who will obviously be out to secure his second and final term.

The biggest victim of such a contest will be opposition leader Raila Odinga whose endorsement in the county and the entire Luo Nyanza region is almost a guarantee of a victory.

Odinga will, therefore, have it hard deciding on who to endorse in the race, as all the leaders are his close allies, with Ruth doubling as his younger sister.

Endorsing her will be even worse, as he will be accused of nepotism, and could led to outrage that will consequently see the voters vote in the opposite direction in protest.

On the other hand, he will have it hard choosing between the remaining two and cannot leave any out.

Raila and Nyong’o were part of the team dubbed ‘Young Turks’ that pushed for multiparty democracy in the 80s, a relationship that has been further boosted by their close collaboration over the years.

Outa has on the other hand deployed himself as his defender in the region, and has as well always remained close.

Remaining silent will also see the former Prime Minister emerge as a weak leader who cannot give directions in his own home turf, making the race one of the worst confusing for him.
