As the arrest of Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria continues to elicit mixed political reactions, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has reminded the Gatundu lawmaker how he supported the controversial Security Laws Amendment Bill, 2014.
Kuria was arrested on Friday for allegedly beating up a woman last December. However, Kuria was released on Saturday night after depositing a Sh 20,000 cash bail.
Odhiambo blamed Kuria's woes on the Security Laws Amendment Bill, which he supported in December 2014 during a chaotic Parliament session.
"Security Laws Amendment Bill which we opposed (resulting in my being physically assaulted and undressed) encouraged police impunity like on this video. Most of my colleagues complaining here supported it. Lesson: Always make law for posterity and not to target opposition for you never know when, where and how you get into opposition," the Suba North legislator posted on her Facebook page.
Before Kuria's release, a group of MPs were teargassed at Kilimani Police station, where they had camped protesting the decision by the police not to release him after the court directed that he be released on a Sh 50,000 cash bail.
The officers cited "orders from above" as the reason for his detention at the police station.
