Residents of Bokemweri village in Nyamache Sub County, Kisii County are mourning the death of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate who hanged himself for allegedly performing poor in the recently released KCSE exams.
Confirming the incident area assistant chief identified as Meshack Obiri said the deceased Japheth Okindo hanged himself using his school sweater.
“The deceased hanged himself after he got poor results in the recently released KCSE exams. His parents insulted and abused him because of his poor perform something that resulted to his death,” said Meshack.
He warned parents to stop condemning their children when they go against their expectations saying unnecessary deaths may occur.
The administrator pleaded with local youths stop taking suicide as the only option when they are faced with difficulties.
“It is sad for our youths to continue terminating their lives prematurely. I am calling upon youths to seek guidance from local elders and members of the clergy whenever they are faced with difficulties,” said the chief.
He said the body of the deceased was moved to Kisii Teaching and referral hospital morgue.
