The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on Saturday set October 1 as the deadline of the directive, after which the denomination will cease being a legal tender.

Speaking on Tuesday, the Jubilee Senator welcomed the move, further requesting that the deadline be pushed closer, urging CBK to leave a window of only a few days.

"Change of currency is a welcomed move. I wish the period of change was not four months but two days. We want to see the money in sacks," he said on KTN's the Big Story.

On his side, fellow panelist and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita said that the CBK must come back to Kenyans with a report of achievements once the four-month window closes.

"We want a clear report from the CBK Governor on what this measure has achieved, by October 1," said the MP who is allied to the opposition's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Cherargei's remarks come only two days after another section of Jubilee MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto called for the same, saying that the time needs to be shortened.
