Machakos County Health CeC Ancent Kituku has come to the defence of Govenor Alfred Mutua following claims that there are some private drug stores which have been allowed to operate near public hospitals.
Speaking during an exclusive interview on Tuesday, Kituku denied the claims, maintaining that the closure of the stores was effected following Governor Mutua's directive.
The CeC said he is not aware if there are other stores which are still operating, but promised to look into the matter.
"Every clinic, pharmacy or lab near Machakos Hospital was closed in a bid to curb drug theft in the public hospitals. About the issue of some being opened I don't know, I'm not aware but will look into it," said Kituku.
He said residents should support the move by Governor Mutua because it will help curb crime in public hospitals.
Kituku disclosed that the county government is planning on adding more CCTV cameras in public hospitals in order to curb the theft of drugs.
This comes after a section of pharmaceutical traders on Sunday accused Governor Mutua of favouring some traders.
They claimed that some drug stores were still operating despite being in the same radius.
The traders now want the governor to explain the criteria used to allow some of the stores to remain operational.
