With area Governor Okoth Obado stirring controversy by rejecting the party's choice of former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko as its candidate, the battle is expected to be bitterly contested with ODM not leaving anything to chance.

And keen not to easily surrender the seat to any other party or an independent candidate that may water down its influence in the region, ODM is sending its troops into the region to pitching for Ayacko's election.

Having proved himself as a crowd -puller, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is expected to lead other governors in the ODM charm offensive of the region.

According to the Standard, Joho who is also the party's deputy leader will lead Governors Wycliffe Oparanya, Anyang' Nyong'o , Amason Kingi and Cornel Rasanga in campaigning for Ayacko.

On the other hand, Siaya Senator James Orengo will lead the Senators including his Kakamega counterpart Cleophas Malala in the party's ambitious campaign.

With Orengo and Joho leading the ODM campaign team, the political atmosphere will be lit and for the perceived rebels, the heat may be too hot for them.
