With only three years remaining to the 2022 election, Deputy President William Ruto's plan to woe a key backyard of opposition leader Raila Odinga is facing an acid test after the latter's recent political move.
Raila's ODM decision to expel two vocal Coast MPs, Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) and Suleiman Dori (Msambweni) will no doubt affect Dr. Ruto's political momentum in the region that is slowly becoming a key battle ground pitting the DP and the former prime minister.
With the two MPs facing uncertain political times, other backers of the DP from the region that has voted for the ODM leader since 2007, may decide to go slow on the push for Ruto-presidency in order to save their political seats.
Dr. Ruto, who is seen by many as the front runner in the 2022 State House race, may be forced to change his political tactic in the region if he is to finally swing the Coast into the Jubilee formation to back his bid. For now, he may have to go back to the drawing board probably looking for new allies.
For now, Jumwa and Dori who are now fearing for their political lives, may not be the right people to ignite the 'hustler's' political wave in the region.
