Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has urged parents to take serious their parenting role.
Speaking on Wednesday when he officially released the 2019 KCSE examination results, the CS cited unfortunate instances where children have committed suicide, after parents became tough on them, for not achieving the ‘right’ grades.
He called on parents to accept the results of their children, regardless of what they score.
According to the CS, parents should not just focus on the white collar jobs, but should encourage their children to work in areas they are capable.
“This one goes to the parents, kindly play your parenting role as required and accept the results of your child. Let no one lie to you that you have to have a job and put on a tie like the one am putting on, to know that you are successful,” said Magoha.
He sounded a stern warning to individuals in society who are in the habit of marrying school going girls, adding that the law will soon catch up with them.
“I want to say this without fear that there are still people who are fond of marrying school girls. We will come for you and ensure that school girls go back to school. And therefore, we shall be working with the Ministry of Interior to ensure that is achieved,” said Magoha.
