Renowned political analyst Richard Anyoka has waded into the ongoing Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) debate.
Speaking on Sunday in an exclusive interview with K24 Television, Anyoka held the view that the country's second in command would oppose a BBI process that results in a weak presidency.
He held the view that DP Ruto was keen on inheriting the top seat from the incumbent head of state Uhuru Kenyatta with its powers intact.
"William Ruto wishes to vie for the presidency and so he would not want to be given a weak presidency. He would be very comfortable if this goes to the referendum. Every chance has it that he is going to oppose this," Dennis Anyoka said. (2:05-2:15)
Anyoka's intervention comes in the wake of talk about the need to introduce a parliamentary system that will birth a powerful Prime Minister and a weak presidency.
Allies of the Deputy President Dr William Ruto have opposed the prospect of a parliamentary system saying that it is aimed at edging out the country's second in command.
The introduction of the Prime Ministerial post could also give Uhuru Kenyatta the opportunity to run for office again in 2022 subject to a constitutional amendment.
Proponents of the introduction of the PM post like the secretary-general of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) have been vouching for the post with Uhuru in mind.
