38-year-old Stephen Ndolo Kioo was charged over the connection to the death of his 41-year-old wife Jane Murugi Mukuha.

Mukuha, a clinical officer from Machakos County was on Friday, October 4, found dead at her matrimonial home in Membley Estate, Ruiru.

During the case hearing, investigating officer Patrick Okumu filed an application in court asking for more time to complete investigations and to analyse mobile phones of the two accused persons.

Okumu asked Ruiru Senior Principal Magistrate Clara Otieno to detain Ndolo and the house help, Violet Nafula Wanjala for 10 days.

Okumu told the court that Ndolo, a medical doctor and the Makueni County director of health, during the Friday morning incident called his neighbor at 5am and informed him that his wife committed suicide.

Ndolo told the neighbor that Mukuha had hanged herself in the washroom but when the police were called, they found the deceased half seated on the toilet bowl.

The police found Mukuha’s neck tied up loosely to a window grill by a piece of cloth and a liquid substance which was in a cup had been placed on a sink in the washroom.

In the same washroom, the court heard that detectives found a man’s white vest with blood stain under other clothing.

The house help who has been working for years in the house remained silent when asked about the death of Mukuha.

The husband told detectives that only his wife knew the password to the CCTV which its CPU appeared to have been tampered with.

“The duo’s story of events are inconsistent hence more time is needed to carry out thorough interrogation, investigate their call data, messages and get the results from government chemist,” said Okumu as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.

The two accused persons through their lawyer opposed the application asking the court to release the two on bond or for them to be detained for a maximum of two days.

“The DCI have not justified why they need the 10 days. That period is too long in the circumstances. The police have already retrieved all the evidence that they need in the matter,” said the lawyer.

Magistrate Otieno ordered for the two to be detained for five days at Ruiru Police Station.
