The United States is partly to blame for the current arrogance being portrayed by the Islamic State of Iran, former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim has said.
Both US and Iran have been at loggerheads following the murder of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani by the US military last Friday.
On Tuesday, Iran unleashed dozens of missiles targeting US bases at Iraq.
In a tweet on Friday, Maalim argued that US has been backing Iran's Shiite dominance, which is viewed as extremist in nature.
"Iranians have been singing death to America and Israel and burning respective flags since 1979 but maintained splendid covert relationships all through," he said.
"Iran with the help of the West has expanded its Shia influence in all Islamic countries. US extorts the Gulf States but pays Iran," added Maalim.
Canada on Thursday claimed the Ukrainian plane which crashed in Iran on Wednesday was brought down by a missile, contrary to claims that it was a technical problem.
US President Donald Trump also said he was suspicious of the tragedy, adding that Washington is still investigating the claims.
Iran has, however, dismissed the claims, adding that the suspicions are meant to destroy the reputation of Tehran.
