Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo on Tuesday blamed churches and religious leaders for failing to stamp their authority on politicians gracing their services.
During an interview with Citizen TV, Millie said that what happened with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and nominated MP Maina Kamanda was shameful and uncalled for.
She observed that there's a need for religious leaders to put rules that will ensure there is no future fracas involving politicians in church or any other place of worship.
"The church should not lament. It has encouraged this kind of behaviour from politicians and it's up to it to put the house back in order," she averred.
She noted that it is not a must for politicians to be acknowledged let alone be given a chance to speak in churches.
He went ahead to criticise the turn of events that led to the two leaders locking horns.
"It's not a matter of life and death to be acknowledged as an MP if you are present at a function. Indeed, the events were regrettable and especially it being in a church," she said.
Her sentiments were echoed by former Nyeri Woman Representative Pricilla Nyokabi who urged politicians to keep it cool while in public.
"A bit of decorum on how we carry ourselves in the church is what is required and once you have a platform to debate then you can do that," she said.
On Monday Murang'a Catholic Bishop James Wainaina banned political functions in the diocese that also covers Kirinyaga and demanded an apology over Gitui fracas.
