Speaking on Tuesday, the famed lawyer urged the political class not to attempt to escape from the police when being sought and instead hand themselves in.

He said that as much as politicians have been lamenting being wrongly handled by the law enforcers during arrests, there is no need for them to attempt to avoid it.

"I urge leaders, when you learn that the police are looking for you don’t run. I have always urged that leaders must be handled with decorum, but that involves handing yourself over to the police when they are looking for you," he said on NTV's AM Live show on Tuesday morning.

This comes a day after the arrest of Mandi Governor Stephen Sang, who was arrested on Monday, after days of hiding from the police in Nandi county.

The county boss was arrested over claims of destroying teas bushes in a four acres plantation allegedly grabbed by an investor from the public, and was meant for a cattle dip.

Otiende now says that there is need for the leaders to prevent dramatizing their arrests by simply and decently presenting themselves to the police.

"When you learn that the police are looking for you, don't hide, don't wait for it to be funny," he added.
