A body of a primary school teacher was on Tuesday retrieved from River Gucha in Kegati, Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County.
Area chief Alexander Nyakinywa confirmed the incident saying the deceased, Jackeline Karani, was a teacher at Kiong'anyi Primary School.
The chief said she went missing on her way home, Monday evening.
"Jackeline went missing on Monday evening forcing family members to launch a search. Her body was found in Gucha river at Nyachenge area near Kegati SDA church," said the chief as reported by Egesa FM
The chief further reported that the family of the deceased confirmed that Karani had a mental problem and it was not the first time she went missing.
Kisii Police Commander Martin Kibet said the body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue.
"Members of the public should be patient to allow police to probe the matter before further details are given. The cause of death must be known," he said.
He appealed to members of the public in Kegati to be vigilant during this season when the river is full to avoid unnecessary deaths especially those caused by drowning.
