On Wednesday, residents expect to participate in a demo that has been called by human rights activists Boniface Mwangi and Alamin Kimathi among others.

The protests will be in solidarity with Ugandan opposition MP Bobi Wine who is currently in detention.

According to Mwangi, the protesters will march straight to the Ugandan embassy and air their dissatisfaction with Kampala.

This comes after Kenyans in Busia earlier went to the streets at the border town demanding that President Museveni releases the 'Ghetto President.'

"The people of Western I love you. Thank you for leading on this. We are on for #FreeBobiWine on Wednesday, 22nd August. We are marching to the Ugandan Embassy on Riverside drive. The organising team @TeamCourageKE @alaminkimathu @lawsocietykenya will share more details," wrote Mwangi.

Leaders across the continent have been calling for demonstrations to heap pressure on President Yoweri Museveni to release the first-time parliamentarian.

In the last election protests in Nairobi, many opposition youths from Kibera suffered injuries while others lost lives and it remains a subject of confirmation whether Kenyan police will turn violent against anti-Museveni protesters at the embassy.
