President Uhuru Kenyatta is not ready to hand over control of Jubilee Party to his deputy William Ruto, political analyst Gitau Warigi has opined.
Warigi said with his presidential term coming to an end in 2022, Uhuru will bank on his position as Jubilee party leader to remain politically relevant beyond his retirement.
"Uhuru has no intention of relinquishing control of the party. The leadership of Jubilee will be Uhuru’s post-presidency perch through which he intends to continue to play a high-profile political role in the country," he said.
In his weekly column published by Sunday Nation, Warigi, a veteran journalist, warned Ruto against trying to wrestle the governing outfit from the President, noting the move could highly dent his 2022 presidential bid.
"William Ruto could lose incalculably if he chooses to stage an all-out war. He risks losing everything in the party and being forced to decamp to another one or create a new party from scratch. With just about two years to 2022, time is woefully short for that," he said.
The analyst claimed Jubilee party elections set for March will be 'choreographed to ensure Uhuru remains in charge' of the ruling party and warned the outcome could force Ruto and his allies to bolt out.
"Once it dawns on Tangatanga that Jubilee has shareholders they can’t call to account, they will be left with no option but to “tangatanga” their way to another outfit," Warigi noted.
