Master John Onkendi, 13, was rescued by the Mombasa Road based station when his commentary video went viral, leading to contributions of Sh600,000 for his education.

"As Radio Maisha, we take seriously our role in society of changing our community by positively touching lives. John Onkendi, is not only a loyal listener but also a very gifted young boy. We want to start him off on his promising future, and have done so with our listeners.

"I take this opportunity to appreciate every listener who jumped on this initiative in the spirit of 'TUKO MBELE PAMOJA', and 'RADIO ZAIDI YA RADIO' i.e. Radio Maisha is more than just Radio," said Lynda Oriaso, Radio Maisha Programmes Controller.

And the money, it's understood, was largely used to built a descent house for Onkendi and his siblings, who had been living at their grandmother's mud- walled house in Suneka. Some were meant for his education.

And on Monday, Onkendi was pictured in the streets of Kisii Town with other street children. It is not clear now he got their and why he abandoned school. At the moment, he refused to give interview to the Media.

"Mike Nyagwoka, radio maisha,Stephen mukangai,Hassan mwana wa Ali.This boy Onkendi doing very bad kimaisha. What went wrong???He's a chokora hapa kisii. This is todays photo of Onkendi.Mtangazaji mpira hodari," wrote Mr George Ondari, hoping to get the information to Standard Group.

Usually, when Standard Group fundraises for such cases, the money is given to the family or at least the person who raised the matter. A newly furnished house of Onkendi was completed early this year.
