The trio appeared before Mombasa Resident Judge Erick Ogolla, where a charge sheet was read to them.

The court heard that Charles Wangombe, Ishmael Baraka, and Naftali Chege, alongside other suspects who were not before the court, murdered the deceased on May 19, 2012, in Diani, Msambweni constituency, Kwale County.

They, however, denied the charges prompting the judge to order Chege and Baraka to be remanded at Shimo La Tewa Maximum prison pending ruling on their bond application.

Judge Ogolla however, Wang'ombe on free bond citing his ill-health following his lawyer Pascal Nabwana's plea that his client was suffering from a chronic illness.

“The suspect despite the ailment honoured summons and traveled from Laikipia County and appeared in court. That demonstrates that he cannot abscond court if granted bail," his lawyer told the judge.

If released, prosecution counsel Jami Yamina said the suspects would interfere with witnesses.

The ruling on the two suspect's bond application is scheduled for July 19, 2018.

Representing Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo a week ago, Mombasa chief magistrate Julius Nangea said Alexander Monson who was the son of British Aristocrat Baron Monson, neither died of drugs nor a natural cause as police claimed.

The magistrate said witnesses who were with the deceased before being booked at Diani police station cells said he was in good health and that there were inconsistencies by witnesses who testified, including police officers.

The 28-year-old died on May 19, 2012 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Diani after allegedly being assaulted by four police officers.
