Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Tuesday received rare support for his bid to become Kenya's president.
Joho who was in Nairobi where he appeared before Senate's Public Accounts Committee had just concluded his Senate deliberations when he walked out and found a battery of primary school pupils waiting for him outside the Senate building.
The pupils were from a primary school in Mombasa and had visited the Senate to familiarize themselves with Parliamentary procedures.
The pupils on seeing the county chief cheered for the governor as he acknowledged their greetings before he engaged them in a brief discussion.
"Go and study hard. You want to be leaders in the future, right?" Joho asked the pupils who respond "Yes".
"So go and study hard. How many of you want to be governor?" he again asked as the children wearing blue dresses with matching white blouses raised their hands.
"For me, I want to be the president in future. Will you pray for me?" he asked as the children said "Yes".
Joho has declared interest for the country's top seat in 2022. If he vies, he will face off with Deputy President William Ruto.
