Arabia Girls Secondary School which is located along the Kenya-Somalia border posted some of the poorest results in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

The school had a total of 16 candidates who sat the KCSE exam and the best two candidates scored a D plain each.

Nine students from the school scored D- (minus), four got an E and one of the students had her examination results cancelled.

The school’s principal, Mr Issa Yarrow, attributed lack of enough teachers and admitting students with low marks to the poor performance.

Mr Yarrow said the school suffered after non-local teachers were transferred from the area due to insecurity.

“The school is not poorly managed. We only have five teachers in the school after the non-local teaching staff was transferred. The school has been admitting students with low marks which in turn affects the final examination results in Form Four,” he said.

The principal further said that when the school opened this year for the first term, only 55 students reported with only four teachers present to teach.

He said 50 students were set to join Form One as the 2019 academic year starts but no student has reported yet.
