The election of Ann Wanjiku Wa Kibe as Member of Parliament (MP) for Gatundu North Constituency has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
The petition against Kibe's win had been filed by former area legislator Clement Kung'u Waibara.
Kibe's poll victory was in March last year nullified by Kiambu High Court judge Joel Ngugi on grounds that the August 8, 2017 election in Gatundu North was marred by 'massive irregularities'.
The former Kameme FM presenter bounced back to Parliament after the Appeal Court ruled in July that she had been validly elected.
The Appellate court observed that Waibara in his petition had failed to specify in which polling stations the results were marred by irregularities.
Not satisfied by the judgement, the petitioner moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling but on Friday, January 18, 2019 suffered a big blow after the highest court in the land ruled that Kibe's election was free and fair.
A joyous Kibe, who served as a nominated MCA between 2013 and 2017, moved to social media to express her happiness.
"It's a win! My God is a faithful God. He has done it for us! Praise be to His name. The Supreme Court has this morning upheld my election as the Member of Parliament for Gatundu North after a long and tedious court process. I remain unbowed in my quest to work for my great people of Gatundu North. A big thankyou for your prayers and support throughout the process. Sasa tufanye kazi," she said in a Facebook post.
