Harrison Langat, a police constable, allegedly killed his fellow constable Jacob Nderi, and two women Doreen Wawira, and Alice Katonye using a G3 rifle 16 years ago.

The two women had come to the police station to report a case when the predicament befell them.

According to reports by Standard, Langat who was stationed in Mtwapa showed up at his place of work on March 16, 2003 drunk where he took the lives of the three.

Among the pieces of evidence that police found at the scene were eight spent cartridges.

The judge in her sentencing said that the evidence presented before the court proved beyond doubt the accused did the heinous crime.

“Three people died in the hands of a police officer who was supposed to protect them yet there was no special circumstances that forced him to use his weapon since the victims were not armed and had not committed any crimes,” Judge Chepkwony ruled.

The ruling comes amid increased cases of police officers getting involved in criminal activities including police brutality and aiding in heisting of money from financial institutions.

The sentence is meant to be a lesson to law enforcement officers who use their guns for the wrong reasons.. State counsel Erick Masila notified the court that some of the officers were using their firearms to kill civilians.
