Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen now says that the BBI report will have to be implemented through a parliamentary process.
In a tweet on Thursday night, Murkomen noted that the report would depend on various legislations to be passed by Parliament which also entail laws on how a referendum on the constitutional changes stipulated in it could be formulated.
The Senate Majority Leader noted reading the BBI report, it clearly suggests changes to some Acts of Parliament and creation of others.
The lawmaker who is a close ally Deputy President William Ruto said he was waiting to see how the proponents of a referendum would implement the report through a popular initiative yet it seemed to have proposed changes to be done to it through Parliament.
"Having read the BBI report proposing amendments of various Acts of Parliament&enactments of other Acts of Parliament I am watching the usual whiners saying they don’t want Acts of Parliament. I am waiting to see where else they will make these laws," Murkomen said in the tweet.
The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report was officially unveiled to the public at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday, in an event attended by politicians across political divide among other dignitaries.
Some leaders including Kieleweke lawmakers have opined that Kenyans should be allowed to make a decision regarding the fate of the report through a referendum.
