Deputy President William Ruto's claims that the Jubilee Party encroached deeper into the Kibra vote in the concluded by-election are not right, political analyst Joseph Simekha has said.
Ruto has been claiming that the Jubilee Party has served the notice in Kibra, increasing the percentage of vote it scooped in 2017 from 12 to 26 percent on Friday.
Simekha now says that the DP is misleading Kenyans, as the percentage he is speaking about is only high because of the low turnout that was witnessed in the by-election.
Speaking on Wednesday, the governance and public policies expert said that Jubilee actually lost support if looked at in terms of absolute numbers, which is what matters.
"Jubilee are (sic) looking at the percentage and not absolute numbers. They actually lost in numbers compared to what they got in 2017. Ruto's percentage claims are far fetched because very few people came out to vote," he said.
Simekha made the remarks on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation on Wednesday morning, where he also faulted the DP's claims that violence was used by ODM party to win.
He stated that while there was some violence, it was caused by Kenyans who have lost faith in the IEBC with regards vote protection and not a particular party organizing violence.
He added that its also the very same Jubilee government that had always branded Kibra residents a violent lot and repeatedly subjected them to provocation, hence the retaliation.
"If you have people who are always provoked and intimidated, they must get a way of retaliating. This is a situation where people cannot trust our electoral agencies with vote protection, forcing people to come up with their worn ways of doing it," he added.
Among the notable politicians who were roughed up during the voting day was former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.
