A 93-year-old woman committed suicide behind her house in Mukuni village, Mumbuni location Machakos county.
Confirming the unfortunate incidence, Mukuni area chief Robin Mutua has said that the old woman was found hanging from a tree on Monday evening.
"On Monday evening, some of the woman's relatives passed by her house but were shocked after they saw her hanging from an avocado tree," said Wambua.
The old woman is said to live alone at her homestead although her son have built houses nearby.
According to the chief, the cause of the suicide has not yet been established as she did not leave any information on the reasons behind her action.
However, the old woman's neighbours suspect that the main cause of the suicidal death is land wrangles between the sons and the old widow.
Mumbuni police officers have launched investigation into the case. The body of the old woman has since been transfered to Kangundo Level 5 Hospital mortuary.
