The race for the 2022 general election has gained momentum across the country as politicians put in place strategies to help them clinch their desired seats.
As the succession debate takes centre stage, here are five deputy governors who stand a high chance of clinching the top county seats in the 2022 election.
1. James Nyoro
The Kiambu County deputy governor and his boss Governor Ferdinand Waititu have been having a frosty relationship.
Nyoro who shelved his gubernatorial bid in favour of Waititu in the 2017 polls is likely to vie for the Kiambu governor seat in the 2022 polls.
2. Adelina Mwau
The Makueni County Deputy governor has already declared interest to succeed Governor Kivutha Kibwana in 2022. Kibwana is serving his second and last term as governor.
3. Dr William Kingi
Mombasa County Governor Hassan Joho is likely to endorse his Deputy Dr William Kingi for the top county position.
Kingi is described as a strategist who understands the issues facing Mombasa residents and this could see him get elected if he contests in the 2022 election.
4. Daniel Chemno
The Uasin Gishu County deputy governor is seen as governor Jackson Mandago's likely successor.
He is likely to vie for the governor seat come 2022.
5. Fatuma Achani
The Kwale County deputy governor is seen as the best successor to Governor Salim Mvurya in 2022.
Mvurya is likely to endorse her for the top seat in the upcoming 2022 general election.
It is a matter of time to see whether these deputy governors will succeed their bosses in the coming general elections.
