Kogello village might be several kilometers from Kisii and Nyamira Counties but Barack Obama's planned visit on Monday has positively impacted the local economy.

The former US president will land on Monday before heading to Siaya where he is expected to launch Sauti Kuu initiative, a brainchild idea of his sister, Auma Obama.

But hotel industry, transport and agriculture businesses have reportedly boomed in Gusii region, which is receiving guests as far as from Mombasa ahead of the grand tour.

"Rooms will not be available over the weekend because we have guests who are headed to Obama's function. I am told Kisumu is already full," said Sylvia Lumumba, a co-owner of Ufanisi Resort.

And in Kisii CBD, Mr. Nyangena, the owner of Keiko Guest House said: "It is true that the house is almost full, we are having guests from across the country ahead of Obama's tour."

With Kisumu already full, the Matatu industry is also reaping with Taxi owners taking the most share due to frequent travels from Kisii to Kisumu.

"I have made several trips to Kismu since Monday. Many of my customers are domestic tourists who have been familiarizing themselves with Siaya ahead of the tour," said Douglas Kamanda.

But above all, the tour seems to have boosted Agriculture sector with banana suppliers feeding the Lake side city hotels since Monday.

"I have been supplying bananas to Kisumu but this week the demand has been so high. I am even forced to order more from Kisumu," said Elvis Machuka, a business owner in Nyamira.

Separately, ODM leaders from Nyanza are pushing to have governors granted access to Obama for business talks in a tight schedule being run by his family.

The former president will reportedly make a 10-minute stopover in Kismu before proceeding to his ancestral home in Siaya.
