The bodies of the 12 were discovered on Monday.

The infants allegedly died after the hospital incubators failed on Sunday night.

Reacting to the news that was exposed by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday, a section of Kibera residents now want action taken against the hospital management.

“It is pure negligence and the top management of the hospital should be held responsible for the deaths,” Jackie Makungu, a resident said.

Makungu said that the hospital must explain on the circumstances that led to the deaths.

“There is stinking rot at Pumwani hospital and we pray that this time round people will be taken to court,” Josephine Akoth said.

Akoth said that Nairobians have lost faith in Pumwani hospital and other government operated clinics.

“If such things can happen at Pumwani then as mothers we are not safe,” Purity Momanyi said.

“The DPP and other agencies should immediately step in and investigate the matter,” Mercy Achieng said.

Achieng said that unless action is taken against rogue hospital managers, such incidents will continue to happen.

Sonko stormed the hospital after a tip-off that babies had died and were allegedly being stuffed into boxes.

Governor Sonko has since suspended the hospital superintendent Catherine Mutinda alongside the hospital gynecologist James Kamau and the hospital’s administrator Zack Angahya.

The governor said the case is criminal and will be handled by relevant agencies.
