Speaking at the Kiamunyeki PCEA Church in Lanet on Sunday, the lawmaker stressed on the need for the community to speak in one voice, cautioning that divisions might see the community lose the impact it has always had in such polls.

He said that its only this way that the community can have a good share of the benefits set to follow the polls, saying that the stakes are too high to be played around with.

"I urge my brothers and sisters living in the former central province and those in the diaspora to reason together for the stakes are too high to be taken for granted," he said.

The parliamentarian spoke when he attended a church service at the PCEA Jerusalem Church Parish, also attended by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua poked holes into opposition leader Raila Odinga's concerns about politician's involvement in church fundraisers and contributions, firing a thinly veiled shot at him.

"We know these people, they don't even attend church services nor assist those preaching the good news," he said.

Raila has repeatedly accused some politicians of using churches to launder proceeds of graft, proposing their complete blockage from the churches.

Ngunjiri is one of the leaders from the Kikuyu community that have openly declared their support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

His remarks come at a time when leaders from the region appear divided between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the DP, with the two warring sides trading attacks among themselves.
